Sense of Place

Sense of Place

Anchoring the Community with a “Place”
The first phase of the new community at Heartland will be a 180 acre mixed-use “town center” located at the north end of the property fronting the Long Island Expressway. It will incorporate public and private sector uses ranging from civic, retail, commercial offices, hospitality and residential. It will provide a live, work and play environment that will anchor the overall Heartland community over time. While the town center will become the heart of the community, the “main street” will be the heart of the town center plan. It will provide social space – people watching places and will become the “place” that will function as the focal point for community interaction and identity.

The Mixed-Use Town Center:

Mixed housing and workplace to extend the daily activity cycle
Cultural uses to expand its community focus
Events space for programmed and unprogrammed activities
Pedestrian-friendly street framework to promote connectivity
