Important Public Hearing on Heartland Town Square

Choose to be heard regarding the change of zoning for Phase 1of  the Heartland Town Square project.  The Islip Town Board is holding a public hearing on April 26, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Town Hall Annex, 401 Main Street in Islip.  Here are some of  Heartland Town Square benefits:

  • – 3 Phases over approximately 25-30 years
  • – 9,000 new multifamily housing units
  • – 90% rental/10% sale, including: 
    • – Including 10% reserved for workforce housing
    • – 1 million square feet of retail/entertainment
  • – 3 million square feet of office providing a dynamic on-site population and new economic activity
  • – Transit oriented development, integrating additional shuttle buses to the Deer Park LIRR Station, that is directly next door, and continue to use bus routes that exist.  Scaled and designed to discourage driving and encourage mass transit use
  • – Economic boost to Long Island in creating creating 25,000+ permanent jobs overall
  • – Thousands of  construction jobs immediately
  • – $20 million annually in sales tax and $50 million in property tax after phase 3
  • – Reduction in greenhouse gases
  • – Increase in energy efficiency
  • – Increase in health benefits (more walking/biking)
  • – More public open space (green spaces and plazas), including buffer trail
  • – Supports concept of “complete streets”
